TranscriptionSunday, July 26th. The construction of splinter proof shelters for the protection of the guard of the trenches was begun this night in the Second Parallel. A boom way also made fast across the creek on the extreme left of the Second Parallel. Upon a small artificial island about 75 yards from the creek and 175 yards in advance of the right of the parallel, emplacements were prepared for pieces to be used against the enemy's sharp shooters and for flanking the obstacle. The Second Parallel was tonight worked to the creek which limits its further progress westward. I reported to the General Commanding today, that the Second Parallel is necessarily stronger than Wagner in this, that it admits of as large a musketry fire, has a greater number of and better
