Transcriptionany advance the enemy's last night's success may lead him to attempt. 1. Extend the obstacle by a return along the beach on the right, and across the creek on the left.; 2. Place flanking guns in position.; 3. Rebuild and enlarge the emplacements for offensive guns.; 4. Build bombproof magazine for service of the armament.; 5. Build emplacements for four 10-inch sea coast mortars opposite Beacon House. Monday July 20 and Tuesday July 21. Continued the work in the First Parallel. In compliance with orders received I located an emplacement for an 8 inch Parrott Rifle, on the left, about 100 yards in advance of Battery Hays, and [4,200?] yards from Fort Sumter. Wednesday July 22 and Thursday 23rd. Continued the work above designated, completing the First Parallel. About 1,000 days have been expended upon it. Three fourths of the work was done in the night.
