TranscriptionSunday Sept. [September] 6th 1863; Lieut. [Lieutenant] Char. [Charles] B. Parsons was on duty from 7 o'c P.M. Sept. [September] 5th to 3 o'c A.M. Sept. [September] 6th. He strengthened new line of works. Extended the sap nearly to the line of the enemy's works. Lieut. [Lieutenant] Jas. [James] S. Baldwin was on duty from 12 o'c midnight to 8 A.M. Sept. [September] 6, 1863. He completed Requa Battery in approach in advance of the 5th Parallel. Lieut. [Lieutenant] Chas. [Charles] L. Wilcken was on duty from 3 A.M. to 1 P.M. He continued the approaches near Fort Wagner. Removed three torpedoes. Lieut. [Lieutenant] M. Adams was on duty from 8 A.M. to 4 P.M. He carried gabions and fascines from 2nd to 5th Parallel. Widened the trenches in advance of the 5th Parallel. Lieut. [Lieutenant] P. McGuire was on duty from 12 o'c noon to 9 o'c P.M. Continued the sap and the widening of the trenches as the sap advanced. Lieut. [Lieutenant] H. Farrand was on duty from 4 P.M. Sept. [September] 6 to 2 A.M. Sept. [September] 7. Widened approaches in advance of 5th Parallel. 300 pdr. gun (Parrott) burst after firing 398 rounds splitting itself about 20 inches from muzzle back. Cause the bursting of a shell in the muzzle. The firing from Frgt. [Frigate] New Ironsides at Ft. [Fort] Wagner was wonderfully accurate.
