TranscriptionFriday August 21st 1863; Two Whitworth Rifles, in the Naval baty. [battery?] were disabled. A flag of truce, left Hd. Qrs. [Headquarters] in charge of Col. [Colonel] [Feall?], accompanied by Capt. [Captain] Brooks, bearing dispatches to Genl. [General] Beauregard. Two deserters arrived this morning, from Fort Moultrie, and reported Fort Sumter to be much more damaged their side than ours. Received a telegram from Lt. [Lieutenant] Wilcken who relieved Capt. [Captain] Walker in charge of Sap, saying that he was obliged to retire to the 2nd Parallel, on account of the heavy fire from the Rebel Sharpshooters. Genl. [General] Gillmore sent a dispatch to Admiral Dalgreen, in reference to the enemy's fire, and asking what steps he would take to put a stop to it; after a short time 5 gun boats, commenced shelling Fort Wagner, which helped in some measure, to stop the firing. The 300 pdr. was materially injured
