TranscriptionFriday Sept. [September] 4th 1863; Capt. [Captain] Jos. [Joseph] Walker was on duty from 3 o'c A.M. to 11 o'c A.M. Sept. [September] 4th. He extended the sap 25 ft. strengthening it and arranging lookouts for 18 sharp shooters. Also took up one torpedo. Lieut. [Lieutenant] Chas. [Charles] B. Parsons was on duty from 11 o'c A.M. to 7 o'c P.M. Sept. [September] 4. He strengthened the advanced work widening the trench and putting in a banquet tread. Lieut. [Lieutenant] Chas. [Charles] L. Wilcken was on duty from 7 P.M. Sept. [September] 4 to 3 A.M. Sept. [September] 5th. He continued advancing the sap. Also took up one torpedo. Erected parapet of fascines on the beach. Capt. [Captain] Pratt was on duty from 8 o'c A.M. to 4 o'c P.M. Sept. [September] 4. He brought material to the front for 10 in. [inch] mortar platforms and magazine, nearly completing the magazine. Widened old and commenced new trenches.
